The Stour is very wide but the navigable channel is not.
One can easily get up to the Town Quay at Mistly but you need a ladder to get on shore. There is a good pub restaurant (the Thorn). The old ladders have been cut off, but protrude at low tide so are a hazard to staying over a tide. (We did, but were lucky). There are lots of swans there.
The Butt and Oyster at Pin Mill is good to visit on the Orwell at all states of the tide.
Some pretty large ships pass up and downstream quite frequently.
The Ramsholt Arms at Ramsholt is good to visit on the Deben at all states of the tide.
In both these places we found free available mooring buoys nearby.
A bottle of Cravendale semi skimmed milk lasted for a week in the fridge and then for a week unchilled on the boat.
Three trimanans can raft up to a 5kg bruce overnight in Stagnate without it dragging. (it did not blow hard)
