Ken Burgess in the Ionian 2008
Winding the clock back to mid May of this year my son along with myself booked a Sunsail flotilla holiday. We sailed to and from the islands of Ithaca, Lefkas, and Cephalonia, mooring our Oceanis 34-3 at some pretty little harbours. The flotilla allowed us to free sail everyday, with crews meeting up each evening.
Over the course of the week we sailed to Vasiliki, Fiscardo, Kioni. One evening 8 yachts tied up together, running three land lines to the beach, some days earlier we were joined by 4 dolphins who seemed to enjoy swimming under our towed dinghy.
As the days unfolded we noticed there was an all girl crew making up one of the crews in our flotilla and we soon became aware that three of these girls were reporting the pros and cons of a flotilla holiday for PBO (Practical Boat Owner), I believe the main body of their report will appear in the January 2009 edition of PBO. Not sure if they will print my comments when interviewed but I told them how friendly and helpful Hoo Ness Yacht Club had been in assisting me take ownership of my first little boat.
Picture two was taken late one afternoon coming into Fiscardo having received a radio call warning us of some bad weather closing fast.
